Buttons for leader lines	The histology of the thyroid in a patient with severe myxoedema is shown in Fig. 15.27. The thyroid is replaced with fibrous tissue, there is minimal lymphocytic infiltration, and few follicles remain. This process is believed to be the end result of an autoimmune destructive process in most cases.
